What is The Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust Homebuyer Grant? | An Overview
The Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) created the Homeownership Assistance Program (HAP) to help residents of Miami-Dade County with purchasing a primary residence.
This program provides financial assistance to cover the costs of a down payment and/or closing costs, helping low-to-moderate-income homebuyers who need extra support to secure a mortgage.
The assistance comes in the form of a 0% interest, forgivable loan, meaning the borrower doesn’t have to repay it if they stay in the home for at least 20 years.

Program Benefits
This program provides financial help to make buying a home easier for Miami-Dade residents.
Up to $28,500 in Down Payment Assistance
The grant offers up to $28,500 for homebuyers whose income is at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI).
This money can be used for down payments and closing costs, reducing the amount of money you need upfront. For example, if you are buying a home for $200,000, this grant could cover your entire down payment.
Forgivable Loan with No Monthly Payments
The grant is a loan with 0% interest, and you don't need to make any monthly payments. If you live in the home for 20 years, the loan is forgiven.
This helps homeowners keep their monthly costs down and focus on other expenses, such as maintaining the home.
Homebuyer Education for Extra Support
Homebuyers who want to maximize their assistance may need to complete a homebuyer education course.
This course can help you better understand the homebuying process and how to manage a mortgage. For example, the course covers topics like improving your credit score and budgeting for homeownership.
